New Mexico Junior College and St. Petersburg will meet tonight in the Juco World Series in Grand Junction with the title on the line.
St. Petersburg (47-15-1, 3-1 in the series) used a four-run sixth inning Thursday afternoon to eliminate Wallace State 15-3. New Mexico (54-10, 4-0) eliminated Iowa Western 8-5 in the night game.
If St. Petersburg wins tonight, a deciding game in the double- elimination tournament will be Saturday night.
St. Petersburg first baseman Louis Rojas homered in the sixth after shortstop A.J. Hiner’s triple. Rojas is 8-for-13 in the series.
New Mexico used five hits, including two doubles, and two walks in the five-run fourth to beat Iowa Western.
Two area soccer stars among five DU signees
Kellen Johnson of Columbine High School and Luke Jackson of Grandview were among five soccer players to sign letters of intent at the University of Denver.
As a senior, Johnson was The Denver Post’s Class 5A player of the year and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s Colorado player of the year.
Jackson was Grandview’s captain who anchored a defense that held league opponents to two goals all season.
DU also signed Daniel Cavill of Cross Plains, Wis.; Greg Fiddick of Sidney, British Columbia; and Joey Mathot of Port Moody, British Columbia.
Wyoming picks up at-large spots to NCAAs
Wyoming athletes received at-large bids to next week’s NCAA championships: the women’s 1,600-meter relay team and hammer thrower Kyle Herl.
The relay team of seniors Jessica Fox and Shauna Smith, sophomore Amanda Hopper and freshman Sharon Larrier ran the eighth-fastest time in the nation last season (3 minutes, 31.5 seconds). Herl had the fifth-best throw (219 feet, 10 inches).

Buffs-Huskers game on national stage
The Colorado-Nebraska football game will kick off at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 25 at Folsom Field.
The game will be televised nationally on ABC.
