Chamonix, France – Bode Miller shrugged off a story posted last week by ESPN.com regarding an alternative medicine practitioner he saw in Mexico to relieve pain in his knee.
“I don’t really have a lot of interest in going through the flagrant exaggerations of the press these days,” Miller said Friday.
The ESPN story said at least four members of the U.S. Ski Team have been treated by Milne Ongley, who was banned from treating patients in the U.S. in 1992. Ongley injects orthopedic patients with a mixture of dextrose, glycerin, phenol and water in hopes of generating new tissue growth. Team officials are skeptical of the treatment, but Miller seemed satisfied.
“You’re dealing with a lot of different opinions, all based on very little fact,” Miller said. “If people wanted to do research about the doctor, I think they would come to their own decisions. I think that’s what a lot of the athletes have done.”
Miller also said his statements in the current Rolling Stone magazine accusing Lance Armstrong and Barry Bonds of doping were taken out of context.
“The interview was pretty warped and pretty compressed to make it sound that way,” Miller said.
