Q&A
A 3-year-old male Chihuahua snatched April 9 from the Table Mountain Animal Center in Golden was returned last week. Ben Drotar, the center’s marketing director, spoke Monday about the purloined pooch.
Q: How is the dog?
A: The dog is a little shaken up and scared but otherwise is in good condition considering what it’s been through.
Q: How was the dog taken?
A: Two juvenile suspects removed the dog from a kennel and handed it over the fence to two other suspects. They then fled on bicycles with the dog on the Clear Creek Trail.
Q: How was he returned?
A: At about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, a volunteer walking dogs noticed two people on the outside of the dog-walking fence and saw a Chihuahua alone in the yard. She knew something was wrong. The individuals again fled down the bike path. After retrieving the dog, it was immediately recognized that this was the dog that was stolen.
Q: What happens now?
A: The dog was completely examined and will be adopted by the couple that was initially going to adopt him the day he was stolen. We are still hoping to find the individuals responsible for taking the dog.
