CHICAGO-

This 1874 picture of Shoshone Falls on Idaho's Snake River, taken by Timothy H. O'Sullivan, is part of an exhibit called "One/Many" at the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago.

The show also features the work of William Bell.

O'Sullivan and Bell were photographers who joined government geological surveys in the 19th century to document the western territories. Their panoramic views of vintage landscapes are now valued for their artistry as much as for their technical perfection.

For more information about the exhibit, which is on display through May 7, go to .
