Brown, Baird lead at the CGA PubLinks

Colorado State golfer Zen Brown and Pepperdine’s Michael Baird remained at the top of the leaderboard Saturday with two-round totals of 135 at the Colorado Golf Association Public Links Championship at The Courses at Hyland Hills in Westminster.

Brown, the tournament’s defending champion, is looking to become just the second player to win back-to-back titles since 1983. He and Baird each shot a second-round 67 after their first-round 68s had them tied the day before.

Arvada’s Rick DeWitt, the 1999 champion, is in third place at 137. Andrew Hedrick, who posted the best second round of 65, is fourth at 138.

AFA’s Pounds second at U.S. championships

Air Force graduate Dana Pounds finished second in the javelin event with a throw of 183 feet, 9 inches Friday at the U.S. Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis. Pounds, a recently commissioned second lieutenant who won her second consecutive NCAA championship on June 10, trailed winner Kim Kreiner, who broke her own national record with a throw of 204-10, for the title.
