Two top Colorado Division of Real Estate officials departed last week as the division restructures and prepares to regulate mortgage brokers.
Debbie Campagnola, director of the division, left July 13. Stewart Leach, program administrator of the Colorado Board of Real Estate Appraisers, which is overseen by the division, left July 11.
“All I can say is that they’ve separated and are no longer here,” said Geoff Hier, spokesman for the Colorado Division of Regulatory Agencies, which oversees the real-estate division.
Neither Campagnola nor Leach returned calls to their homes Thursday.
The real-estate division is undergoing a restructuring to make it more efficient and responsive, Hier said. Other divisions have undergone similar changes. He would not say if the departures were related to the restructuring or whether they were voluntary.
On Jan. 1, the division will begin regulating mortgage brokers by requiring criminal background checks and a $25,000 bond. The division already regulates real-estate appraisers, salespersons and brokers through licensure and discipline.
Steve Pott, a Colorado Public Utilities Commission official, was named acting director of the real-estate division Wednesday. A replacement for Campagnola is being sought, Hier said.
Jeffrey Foster, a real-estate division official, is taking over Leach’s duties, Hier said.
