Who: Ted Jones and Diane Dieter of Boulder
Where: Neko Harbor
Best meal: The most spectacular meal was an on-deck barbecue that lasted from around 6 p.m. to well past 10 p.m., with sunshine and beautiful, 35-degree weather the entire evening. We shared the evening with a leopard seal floating on a small berfie bit (yes, that’s a real term).
Best deal: The memories and the pictures you bring back with you.
Best (and only) time to go: Antarctic late spring through summer, November-February. Penguin chicks start to hatch in mid- to late December.
Best travel tip: Bring more film or digital media than you think you will ever need, plus extra batteries and at least one spare camera. A polarizing filter is a good idea. And don’t leave home without Dramamine. The trip through the Drake Passage can be rough.
