Ridgway’s newest eatery – the Doghouse BBQ and Bistro – delivers more than just quality pub grub and drinks. The kitchen slings the finest victuals for travelers venturing through the culinary wasteland between Montrose and Durango. (Telluride excepted, of course, and apologies to the trying-but-not-there-yet eateries of Ouray and Silverton.) The Doghouse’s menu reads like many tavern menus: lots of different pasta dishes, sammies, burgers and decent Q. The ribeye, creatively crusted with ground coffee beans and cracked black pepper, stands out, and the Tunnel Sliders – five small cheeseburgers a la White Castle but better – is a full meal at an appetizer price. Deschutes Brewery’s finest on tap – Black Butte and Mirror Pond – makes the Doghouse a must stop.
