A snow pile of notes. …

After battling knee problems for more than a year, Nene will gladly take his most recent injury: post-dunk syndrome.

“My elbow is hurting,” he said after his windmill throwdown vs. Golden State, the one that registered a 6 on the Richter Scale.

The rest of him is doing just fine, thank you. The knee surgery, the team-imposed diet and the conditioning issues appear to be in his rear-view mirror. Going into Wednesday night, he was shooting .602 over a 12-game span and averaging 19 points and 7.9 rebounds in his previous seven games.

“These last few games have been the best games of my career,” he said. “I’m so blessed. My knee is still hurting a little bit. The cold weather, maybe this will help.” …

Carmelo Anthony: “Nene is back. That’s what we’ve been looking for. … As an organization we’ve bene wondering when we were going to get the Nene back that we knew before the injury.” …

It’s a family affair: CU recruit Kai Maiava, a center from Hawaii, is the nephew of Dwayne “‘The Rock” Johnson. …

The team to beat in the NFC? Make mine the Cowboys. Any team whose top need in the draft is a holder is a Super Bowl contender in my book. …

Gilbert Arenas, when a reporter suggested that the Wizards could use his leadership: “I’m a goof. C’mon, everyone knows that. I look at my elders as the leaders. I don’t want nobody looking at me. How can I tell somebody, ‘Don’t shoot that shot’ when I’m out there chunkin’ ’em.” …

Not that points-in-the-paint is an overrated stat, but the Nuggets rank second in the league at 47-plus per game. The other teams in the top five? The Knicks, Warriors, Bucks and Sonics, lottery teams one and all. …

Then you’ve got the Mavs, the team with the best record in the bid’ness. They’re last in points-in-the-paint, just behind Houston and Detroit. …

Just wondering: With NFL free agency just over the dashboard, what no-difference makers are the Redskins going to overpay this time? …

The Chargers haven’t tried to talk to Southern Cal coach Pete Carroll yet, but it’s just as well. He’d probably want a sweeter deal than Reggie Bush had with the Trojans. …

We’re No. 25! We’re No. 25! Post ball writer Troy E. Renck told you Wednesday that the Las Vegas Hilton oddsmakers have projected the Rockies to finish last in the NL West with an over/under of 74.5 wins. Don’t look now, but UConn may not make it to the Big East Tournament, much less the Big Dance.

And finally, 70-something Norm Stewart, the ex-hoops coach at Mizzou, tells the Arkansas Democrat & Gazette about life on the links in Palm Springs: “We make ’em pay after each hole because we don’t know if we’re going to make it to the next one.”
