AURORA, Colo.-

A more-than 12-hour search for suspect in an apparent home invasion and robbery in Denver ended Tuesday, after a police dog looking underneath a mobile home found the man hiding and bit him on the arm.

The unidentified suspect was taken to Denver Health Medical Center.

The incident began about 8 p.m. Monday when a homeowner realized he was being robbed. Police say he followed the two suspects out of the home and pursued them in his own vehicle, exchanging gunfire along the way.

Denver police spokeswoman Virginia Quinones said no one was reported being hit.

Authorities eventually convinced the homeowner to abandon his pursuit, and officers later caught and arrested one of the suspects.

A second suspect was believed to be in or near the Foxridge Mobile Home park, where residents were urged to stay inside their homes unless they had a police escort to leave for work or school.

The homeowner was not expected to face any charges.

“I believe that this individual may have been acting in a desperate attempt to defend his family,” Denver police Detective John White said.
