Houston sent reliever Dan Wheeler to Tampa Bay today for infielder Ty Wigginton.
Wheeler, who had worked as Houston’s closer earlier this season, attracted interest from several teams.
He lives in Tampa Bay, so he was pleased with the deal, according to teammates.
The Rockies will now have to look in another direction for help before Tuesday’s 2 p.m. non-waiver trading deadline.
