AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.—Brad Sellers had three assists and Air Force hung on to defeat the U.S. National Under-18 team 4-3 in a preseason game Saturday night.
Air Force never trailed after scoring two goals within 13 seconds in the first period. Mike Phillipich scored a power-play goal at 15:24, and Brett Nylander scored an even-strength goal at 15:37.
Less than two minutes later, Jimmy Hayes tapped in Vinny Saponari’s wrap-around attempt for the Under-18 team to make it 2-1.
Blake Page scored for Air Force in the second, and Greg Flynn’s power-play goal at the 18:47 mark of the period made it 4-1.
The Under-18 team got quick goals from Patrick Gaul and Danny Kristo early in the third but couldn’t score after that.
Andrew Volkening made 19 saves for Air Force, which was outshot 12-3 in the first period and 22-21 in the game.
Nick Maricic stopped 17 shots, including 11 in the second period.
