Young Lions event

Authors Nathan Englander and Jennifer Gilmore take the stage together as Young Literary Lions at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 as part of this year’s Leah Cohen Festival of Jewish Books and Authors at the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center, 350 S. Dahlia St.

Englander will discuss his novel “The Ministry of Special Cases,” set during Argentina’s Dirty War, while Gilmore will read from and discuss “Golden Country,” which has been described as good-humored and wacky.

Ann Kirschner will discuss “Sala’s Gift: My Mother’s Holocaust Story,” and Kan Kurzman will talk about “A Special Mission: Hitler’s Secret Plot to Seize the Vatican and Kidnap Pope Pius XII” at 7 p.m. Dec. 5.

On Dec. 6, Joyce Antler will discuss “You Never Call, You Never Write! The History of the Jewish Mother” followed by Peggy Orenstein talking about her latest book, “Waiting for Daisy: A Tale of Two Continents, Three Religions, Five Infertility Doctors, An Oscar, An Atomic Bomb, A Romantic Night and One Woman’s Quest to Become a Mother.” The talk gets underway at 7:30 p.m.

At 3 p.m. Dec. 9, Ranya Idliby, Suzanne Oliver and Priscilla Warner discuss their project, “The Faith Club: A Muslim, a Christian, a Jew: Three Women Search for Understanding.”

Mitchell Bard, a policy analyst for President George H.W. Bush’s 1988 campaign, will discuss “Will Israel Survive?” at 7 p.m. Dec. 11, while Jon Entine will discuss his book, “Abraham’s Children: Race, Identity and the DNA of the Chosen People” at 3 p.m. Dec. 16.

Copies of all the books discussed will be available at the Boettcher Foundation Lobby of the community center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
