A Colorado Springs couple didn’t think as large but did pretty well sticking up liquor stores, motels and convenience stores, until the man was shot and killed by a 74-year-old store owner Tuesday night.
Police believe the couple were responsible for at least five recent robberies and maybe a half-dozen more.
Gibran Gayton, 21, was killed Tuesday night while robbing the Jetway Liquor store. His alleged accomplice, Marsha Mallory, who drove the getaway car, was arrested and remains in jail.
Police today said they believe the couple stuck up the Schnapps Box Liquor store on South Chelton Road on Nov. 20, the Diamond Shamrock store on 2455 Arlington Drive on Nov. 22, the Howard Johnson motel on South Nevada Avenue on Nov. 24 and the Aries Liquor store on Peterson Road on Tuesday night.
Police learned later that Mallory had registered for a room at the Howard Johnson motel.
