Hollywood was seeing red Sunday night, and not just that endless carpet leading into the Kodak Theatre. Red was a favorite color with top actresses at the 80th Academy Awards, from Katherine Heigl’s one-shoulder Escada gown to Anne Hathaway’s draped design and Ruby Dee’s satin Kevan Hall ensemble. Helen Mirren, Miley Cyrus and Heidi Klum were other red-hot properties.

Black also looked dramatic at the Oscars, worn by Hillary Swank in a Versace gown with flower appliques, Jennifer Garner in a stunning strapless design that showed off her art deco Van Cleef & Arpels diamonds and fashion iconoclast Tilda Swinton in an one-sleeved velvet dress.

On what was a rather staid night of fashion, Marion Cotillard stood out in her body-hugging John Paul Gaultier dress with fish-scale styling.

The pregnant Cate Blanchett also stepped out of the pack in an embroidered amethyst empire-waist gown set off with emerald jewelry.

On the guys, best supporting actor winner Javier Bardem was the fashion leader in his slim four-button Prada tuxedo. The ever-dapper George Clooney wore a Giorgio Armani tuxedo and, circling back to the evening’s color theme, Viggo Mortensen wore a red rose on the lapel of his suit.
