KANSAS CITY, MO. — After breaking out of its shooting slump, Iowa State put together a 14-4 run to beat Colorado 76-50 today in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament at the Municipal Auditorium.

Iowa State tied the tournament record with 14 3-pointers (finishing 14-for-31). Junior guard Heather Ezell had seven 3-pointers and led the Cyclones with 25 points, while freshman guard Kelsey Bolte added 19.

The Cyclones broke open the game with hot outside shooting, beginning late in the first half. After opening the game 1-for-8, ISU made 20-of-32 field goals. That include a 14-4 run to open the second half after leading 39-20 at the break.

CU senior forward Jackie McFarland, who needed 22 points to tie Tera Bjorklund for second place on CU’s all-time scoring list, finished with 21 points against the Cyclones.

The Buffs (16-14) finished with the first winning season in four years and are holding out hope for a WNIT bid.

Iowa State (19-11) had defeated CU twice during the regular season, including a double-overtime win in Boulder.

Iowa State, holding out hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, next plays Kansas State on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
