GUFFEY, Colo.—A wildfire burning in Park County has more than doubled to 1,000 acres.

The fire forced 100 people from their homes on Thursday.

It wasn’t threatening any new populated areas today, but Park County spokeswoman Linda Balough (BAY-low) says a subdivision in nearby Teller County is under watch for a possible evacuation.

The fire is burning on a mixture of dry grass and forested areas. Balough said the grass likely helped the fire spread. It was 10 percent contained this evening.

Two emergency shelters have been set up but no evacuees have gone there.

Officials say the fire was started by lightning Thursday afternoon east of Guffey. That’s about 130 miles southwest of Denver.
