Emmanuel Ekpo’s first Major League Soccer goal gave the Columbus Crew a 2-1 victory over the visiting Colorado Rapids on Saturday night.
Ekpo’s low, 24-yard shot deflected off the fingertips of Rapids goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul and into the net in the 70th minute, lifting the Crew to 8-4-2.
The Crew’s Guillermo Barros Schelotto scored on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute, but Nick LaBrocca’s second tally of the year for the Rapids (5-8-1) tied it seven minutes later. Referee Baldomero Toledo awarded the penalty kick after the Rapids’ Pablo Mastroeni tripped Alejandro Moreno as he dribbled the ball.
Buffs lead CGA Publinx.
University of Colorado golfers Patrick Grady, the defending champion, and Derek Tolan will start today’s final round of the Colorado Golf Association Public Links Championship with a four-shot lead.
Grady, of Omni Interlocken, shot a 68 for a 7-under-par 133 total at Fox Hollow Golf Course in Lakewood. Tolan, of South Suburban, has an identical 65-68—133 card. They lead two former CU players, Patrick’s brother Jim and Riley Andrews (The Links), and Tyler Bishop (Twin Peaks), all at 137.
