Hunters already breathing hard in anticipating of the upland game bird seasons run the risk of palpitations from a spectacular at Bass Pro Shops on Saturday and Aug. 17.

Produced in conjunction with the Colorado and Wyoming chapters of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, the event features expert instruction on a broad range of subjects, with emphasis on the conservation projects promoted by organizations that boast a combined 25 chapters and nearly 3,500 members.

In addition, weekend events include a dog training session each hour at the 7970 Northfield Blvd. location (call 720-385-3600 for more information.) Bass Pro Shops also is conducting a big-game seminar that concludes today, and an Aug. 23-24 series on waterfowl.

Upland bird hunting

SATURDAY

10 a.m.: Drew Larson, pheasant hunting and habitat; 11 a.m.: Ed Gorman, walk-In hunting opportunity; noon: Bob Hix, hunting with bird dogs; 1 p.m.: Pete Berthelsen, hunting in Nebraska; 2 p.m.: Trent Verquer, where to hunt quail; 3 p.m.: Berthelsen, upland bird-hunting 101; 4 p.m.: Jesse Beckers, hunting the Dakotas.

AUG. 17

10:30 a.m.: Gorman, walk-In hunting in Colorado; 11:30 a.m.: Larson, where to hunt upland birds; 12:30 p.m.: Berthelsen, getting started and teaching youth; 1:30 p.m.: Verquer, quail hunting 101; 2:30 p.m.: Hix, hunting in Colorado and beyond; 3:30 p.m.: Beckers, hunting pheasant in the Dakotas.

Dog demonstrations

10 a.m.: Dale Merritt, training start to finish; 11 a.m.: Rocky Mountain Pointing Lab Association, introducing the dog to the gun; noon: John Klomp, obedience using the E-collar; 1 p.m.: CJ Kausel, “whoa,” the most important command; 2 p.m.: Hunting Retriever Club, blind retrieves; 3 p.m.: Merritt, gun dog safety; 4 p.m., Brian Bowles, retrieving birds and handling.

AUG. 17

10 a.m.: Rocky Mountain Pointing Lab Association, introducing the dog to the gun; 11 a.m.: Kausel, “Whoa” — the most important command; noon: Hunting Retriever Club, marking and blind retrieves; 1 p.m.: Klomp, E-collar training; 2 p.m.: Merritt, gun dog safety; 3 p.m.: Bowles, retriever blinds and handling; 4 p.m.: Merritt, training start to finish.
