DENVER—An Erie man is dead after a one-vehicle motorcycle accident over the weekend in Boulder County.

The Colorado State Patrol says 44-year-old Jon Sandberg was southbound on state Highway 7 about 10 a.m. Sunday when his Yamaha R1 drifted off the right side of the road.

Sandberg was thrown from the motorcycle and hit a tree. The bike continued on and crashed in a creek.

Authorities say Sandberg sustained fatal injuries despite wearing a helmet. The Boulder County coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Patrol says excessive speed is being investigated as a contributing factor in the accident.
