PHILADELPHIA — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday that seeing the U.S. in an economic crisis eight years after Democrats left the nation in sound fiscal shape is heartbreaking.

Speaking to about 400 people at a Philadelphia Jewish community center, Clinton said that voters concerned about the country’s economy should support Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama because President Bush’s policies are not helping average households.

“The middle class is invisible to this president,” Clinton said. “He doesn’t see how hard it is to make ends meet.”
