Mosby, 41, finished ninth a year ago in a competition won two straight times by North Carolina’s Paul Thompson. The four-day event in Springfield, Mo., measured seven basic outdoor skills. A five-part television series based on the competition will be aired on Versus beginning Nov. 7.

Brunot meeting.

An additional two open-house meetings have been scheduled by the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe to explain a recent memorandum of understanding regarding the Brunot hunting agreement.

The meetings — Tuesday at the Montrose Holiday Inn and Oct. 29 at DOW headquarters, 6060 Broadway, in Denver — are from 5-7 p.m.

Commissioners speak.

Colorado Wildlife Commission members Jeff Crawford and Brad Coors will meet the public 8 a.m. Thursday at the La Quinta Cherry Creek, 1975 S. Colorado Blvd. They’ll discuss whatever state or local wildlife matters are put before them.

Small kid, big record.

Ten-year-old Justin Van Cleave of Denver has been awarded a small-fry division world record by the International Game Fish Association for his 22-pound, 8-ounce northern pike caught at Williams Fork Reservoir. Coincidentally, his grandfather, Dave Van Cleave, held the Colorado state pike record for 10 years with a 30-pound, 6-ounce specimen.

Krieger passes.

Mel Krieger, noted for his fly-casting instruction at shows in Denver and elsewhere across the nation, died Oct. 7 following a lengthy illness.
