OGDEN, UTAH — Cameron Higgins threw for 413 yards and two touchdowns today as Weber State beat Northern Colorado 17-10.

The Wildcats (6-2, 4-0 Big Sky) outgained the Bears on offense 571-142 yards, but struggled getting into the red zone. Higgins hit Tim Toone on an 18-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter and a 40-yard field goal from Jon Williams gave WSU a 10-0 lead at the half.

Linebacker Cristian Sarmento led the Bears (1-5, 1-2 Big Sky) with 17 tackles — 10 in the first half when he had two sacks and a forced fumble. UNC forced four turnovers, including two interceptions from Higgins, while turning the ball over just once.

WSU extended its lead to 17-3 following a 27-yard touchdown reception by Cody Nakamura, who finished with seven catches for 93 yards, late in the third quarter.

However, the Bears got back in the game when Bryan Waggener hooked up with Jason Caprioli on a 5-yard scoring pass with 2:26 left in the game. WSU’s Bryant Eteuati recovered the ensuing onside kick and the Wildcats ran out the clock.
