LARIMER COUNTY — A Fort Collins man was arrested early today after allegedly assaulting a Colorado state trooper who was trying to detain him along northbound Interstate 25.
Trooper Brent Tassitano, a six-year veteran with the Colorado State Patrol, stopped on the shoulder of I-25 near a 1999 Pontiac Firebird to assist a motorist, according to the State Patrol. It was about 3:23 a.m., and they were about 14 miles south of the Colorado and Wyoming border.
Tassitano was immediately assaulted by an individual in the vehicle, the State Patrol said. The motorist, identified as 36-year-old Jon Parsons, was arrested, and during the arrest both men sustained minor injuries. They were taken to Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins by ambulance.
Tassitano has been released, and the motorist was arrested and transported to the Larimer County Detention Center, where he faces charges of assault and driving while under the influence of drugs.
