MADRID, Spain — Seve Ballesteros is improving after last week’s surgery on his cancerous brain tumor.

The La Paz hospital said Wednesday the 51-year-old golfing great remains in intensive care and has also undergone a tracheotomy.

The hospital added Ballesteros’ condition was “evolving favorably.” He underwent a 6 1/2-hour operation Friday on the brain tumor.

• Golfer John Daly was taken into custody Sunday morning by Winston-Salem, N.C., police after he was found drunk outside an area Hooters restaurant.

Police said officers went to the restaurant on a medical call. When they arrived, Daly was being treated by emergency workers after losing consciousness.

While at the restaurant, police said Daly “appeared extremely intoxicated and uncooperative,” refused repeatedly to be taken to the hospital and was asked to leave the restaurant by several workers.

Former player sues CU.

RyAnne Ridge, a former member of the University of Colorado women’s basketball team, filed a lawsuit against the school and its Board of Regents over a scholarship she says she was promised but never received.

In a lawsuit filed in Denver District Court, Ridge and her father allege coach Kathy McConnell-Miller verbally promised Ridge a scholarship that prompted Ridge to transfer from Tulsa.

The lawsuit also said McConnell-Miller contacted Ridge while Ridge was playing at Tulsa, a recruiting violation CU self-reported to the NCAA in June. Patrick O’Rourke, CU’s chief litigation counsel, declined to comment on why Ridge didn’t receive a scholarship.

Houston receiver undergoes surgery

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Houston receiver Patrick Edwards said he holds no animosity toward Marshall, a day after he ran into a service cart and broke his leg in a game against the Thundering Herd.

The freshman was going after a pass at full speed in the third quarter Tuesday when his right shin hit a cart in the back of the end zone.

His mother, Patricia Edwards, told Houston television station KRIV she is considering legal action against Marshall.
