If Motörhead, Thin Lizzy and the Misfits all decided to form a super-band, you would have . The Brooklyn act are what rock ‘n’ roll is supposed to be: dangerous and in your face.
As the show started at the last Saturday, lead singer Aaron Lazar approached the stage with an arm full of beer and demanded a cigarette. After a few drags off of one, he extinguished the cigarette on his arm and began the show. Immediately, the beer began to fly. Well, beer and food. At various points, Lazar was hit with a piece of cherry pie, ramen noodles and package of candy hearts.
Covered in whatever the audience threw at them, the band cranked out most of the songs from new album “Prime Motivator.” As the show progressed, more beer and “fluids” came from all directions, and Lazar began losing his balance on stage. Diving into the crowd, he whipped the small mosh pit into a fury.
As the show worn on, the crowd seemed to lose their steam and the Giraffes began to slow down the show. Playing “Louis Guthrie Wants To Kill Me,” the Giraffes practically serenaded the slowing crowd. But as the song ended, guitarist Damien Paris began to yell into the mic, “Bleed for me!!! Bleed for me!!!” and the beer and energy came back.
The show finished with a group of girls on stage feeling the power Damien Paris, and Lazar rolling around on the floor the lounge covered in everything from the night’s events. I’m still trying to get all of the stains out of my clothes from the show, but it was worth it — easily one of the best shows I have seen this year, and maybe even one of the best I’ve witnessed.
