A suspect in a sex assault that happened along a city bike trail has been arrested by Boulder police.

Asencion Pablo Reyes, 30, was taken into custody Monday after detectives working on the case were able to develop physical evidence linking him to the crime, said Sarah Huntley, a Boulder police spokeswoman.

Reyes is being held at the Boulder County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

The assault took place about 3 a.m. April 20 near Berkley and Moorhead Avenues, Huntley said in a news release.

The 24-year-old victim told police she was taking a walk along the path and stopped to sit by a tree when a Spanish-speaking man approached her, Huntley said.

The man forced himself on top of the victim, covered her mouth and nose with his hand and sexually assaulted her, police said. The assailant then ran off.

There is no indication that Reyes knew the victim.

Reyes was initially identified as a possible suspect after police released a composite sketch of the assailant.
