Onboard “Baby,”
Bio-diesel fueled “Baby,” a eco-education classroom on wheels, rolls into Colorado next week. The first stop is 7 p.m. Jan. 16 at the outdoor DIVAS store in Boulder, where environmental activist Alison Gannett will give a presentation on reducing your carbon footprint, and Baby’s owner Seth Warren will screen his film “Oil+Water,” as part of the KAVU Elements Tour. The tour is following the complete water cycle — from oceans to clouds to mountains and rivers and back to the ocean — through 42 cities in North America. The show gets back on the road and heads to Loveland ski area Jan. 17 for a Keen-sponsored ski day that includes free women’s ski demos, eco- education and cups of hot chocolate. Gannett will be discussing her “Save the Snow” project, and Warren will let you tour Baby, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. More information: or
If the snowshoe fits
Beaver Creek’s ninth annual Snowshoe Adventure Series, a four-weekend slate of fun runs on snowshoes, gets going Sunday at 11 a.m. with a Dash for Cash, followed by a 5K run/walk and a 10K competitive race. Top finishers in the 5K and 10K races win prizes. In addition to the serious races, there are fun runs for the kids. The first three Sundays in the series (Jan. 11, Feb. 8 and March 8), which is designed to appeal to beginners as well as competitive athletes, benefit the Steadman Hawkins Research Foundation’s work with orthopedic abnormalities. The fourth, the Snowshoe Shuffle on April 5, benefits the Shaw Cancer Center’s early detection, prevention and education programs. More information:
Ballroom routine
“Dance It Off Ballroom” (Anchor Bay, $14.98), the latest fitness DVD from the “Dance Off the Inches” series, is a smart, lively introduction to three popular ballroom dances: samba, cha-cha and jive. Though it’s not a calorie-blasting workout, cha cha, samba and jive routines, bookended by a warm-up and cool- down, are good for beginners or for those wanting to add new elements to their workout regimen. Instructor Kristina Milova gives sharp cues and encourages you to add style and attitude, which can make for a fun time, when no one is watching.
