Visit Denver: The Convention and Visitors Bureau will honor “Tourism Stars” of 2008 at the Tourism Industry Hall of Fame dinner March 5 at the Colorado Convention Center.

Representatives of five 2008 events that brought national and international publicity to Denver and Colorado — the Democratic National Convention, the NCAA Frozen Four college hockey finals, the American Association of Museums convention, the National Performing Arts Convention and the Congressional Medal of Honor Society — will be feted.

In addition to the “Tourism Star” awards, four people will be formally inducted into the Tourism Hall of Fame:

• Elbra Wedgeworth, former Denver city councilwoman and president/chairwoman of the Denver 2008 Convention Host Committee for the Democratic National Convention.

• Dana Crawford, longtime Denver developer and historic preservationist.

• Denver hotelier John Schafer.

• Former Denver Mayor Robert Speer, who served from 1904 to 1912 and died halfway through a term that started in 1916.
