SPRINGFIELD, Ill.—Officials say the National High School Finals Rodeo is coming back to Springfield after all.

Members of the Denver-based National High School Rodeo Association have voted to hold the competition at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in 2012 and 2013.

Initially state officials had said they wouldn’t bid to host the event, claiming it was too difficult to host the championships and the Illinois State Fair, which occurs shortly after.

Officials say the estimated economic impact of the event is up to $8 million.
