Mesa State hires women’s hoops coach.
Mesa State hired Roger Walters as women’s basketball coach, athletic director Butch Miller announced Wednesday.
Walters coached boys high school teams at Roaring Fork and Rifle the past 12 years. He replaces Timi Brown, who was Mesa State’s coach for five seasons.
Eagles lose defenseman.
The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League put defenseman Clay Thoring on season-ending injured reserve because of a knee injury and re-signed Aaron Grosul to take his place.
Thoring, a rookie recently claimed off waivers from Bossier-Shreveport of the CHL, had three points in five games with the Eagles.
Roadrunners softball on rise.
The Metro State softball team is No. 14 in the NFCA NCAA Division II poll, rising from No. 20 last week. It’s the highest ranking in team history for the Roadrunners (20-4).
Overtime pays off for 14ers.
The Colorado 14ers dominated in overtime Tuesday night, scoring 11 consecutive points on the way to a 118-109 victory over the Idaho Stampede in an NBA Development League game at the Broomfield Event Center.
Josh Davis led six Colorado players in double figures with 22 points. Sonny Weems scored 20 points coming off the 14ers’ bench.
Lopez powers Pioneers.
Jessica Lopez won all five individual titles and the all-around competition, leading the University of Denver gymnastics team to a 195.60-190.85 victory at Air Force on Tuesday night.
Lopez won the all-around with a score of 39.500, followed by the Pioneers’ Kelley Hennigan at 39.150.
