CORTEZ, Colo.—A court hearing for a Montezuma County man accused of killing his father and feeding parts of the corpse to coyotes has been rescheduled.

Twenty-one-year-old Jeremiah R. Berry appeared in District Court Thursday. But Judge Douglas Walker rescheduled the hearing for April 21 after Berry’s attorney, Chris Trimble, told him a report on Berry’s second psychiatric evaluation wasn’t finished.

Berry has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to second-degree murder in the February 2008 death of his father, Jack Berry.

His initial psychiatric evaluation determined he was sane and competent to stand trial.

Court records say Jeremiah Berry claims his father raped him after telling the son he needed a sex change to become his wife. Parts of Jack Berry’s body were found encased in buckets of concrete.

Jeremiah Berry is being held at the Montezuma County jail on $500,000 bond.
