Ian Stewart was the right choice Wednesday for his first appearance ever in right field. Athleticism won out over awkwardness. Stewart made two good defensive plays and roped a fifth-inning double for the Rockies at Wrigley Field. “I was nervous because of all the horror stories you hear about the wind, but it turned out fine,” he said.

Patton plan.

David Patton, who spent last season in Single-A ball with the Rockies, stuck as a Rule V pick for the Cubs. The right-hander worked two scoreless innings and reached 92 miles per hour on his fastball.

Day job.

The Rockies are 3-3 in day games. They went a franchise-worst 17-30 in day games last season.
