Getting your player ready...

The weather’s beginning to heat up, and so is Todd Helton. He drove a solo home run deep into the Rockies’ bullpen in the third and drove in two runs with a two-out, bases-loaded single in the sixth.

“I’m not exactly where I was in spring training, or where I need to be, but I’m seeing the ball better. It’s a start,” he said.

It was Helton’s first homer at Coors Field since June 10, 2008. He’s hitting .303, his first time above .300 this season. Helton has driven in 15 runs, more than half of his total for 2008, when he had 29.

Proud papa.

Matt Murton was sitting in a hospital Wednesday morning, cradling his newborn son, Micah, who was less than 24 hours old, when he got a call from the Rockies.

He was being called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs. About four hours later, Murton made his debut with the Rockies. Although he struck out in his at-bat as a pinch hitter, Murton and his wife, Stefani, are in heaven. “It’s been crazy. Crazy and amazing,” he said.

Murton was hitting .411 (30-for-73) for the Sky Sox. He replaced injured Jeff Baker.

Yo, Adrian!

Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez hit his eighth and ninth homers of the season, one off Aaron Cook, the other off Matt Belisle. His nine homers in April set a Padres record.
