LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two-time Kentucky Derby-winning jockey Calvin Borel, who is scheduled to ride favored Rachel Alexandra in Saturday’s Preakness Stakes, has added his name to another page in the history books.
Borel on Thursday became the fourth rider in the 135-year history of Churchill Downs to win 900 races when he rode War Eagle Lady to victory in the sixth race.
Borel rode Rachel Alexandra when she won this year’s Kentucky Oaks, and the next day rode Mine That Bird to an upset win in the Kentucky Derby.
Only Pat Day (2,482 wins), Don Brumfield (925) and Larry Melancon (907) have won more races at Churchill Downs than Borel.
