COMMERCE CITY — An 8-year-old boy got hold of his mother’s car keys Friday morning and took her sport utility vehicle for a spin, Commerce City police said.
The unidentified boy drove around the 6900 block of Dexter Street shortly after 7:30 a.m. When a passer-by tried to stop him, the boy lost control of the vehicle and drove through several fences, police said.
The SUV eventually high-centered on some landscaping rocks. No one was injured, but several dogs escaped after the fences were damaged. Police said the boy cannot be charged because of his age. Officials are determining the mother’s liability.
