An American Airlines flight from Chicago to San Francisco made an unscheduled stop in Grand Junction on Wednesday evening because of an odor in the cabin, the airline said today.
The cause of the smell was not definitively located, but it was suspected to be residual oil from the airplane’s recent servicing, said spokesman Tim Wagner.
It was standard operating procedure for the plane to be diverted, he said. The plane landed at Grand Junction Regional Airport at 6:45 p.m.
Another airplane was dispatched from Denver International Airport, and the flight continued to San Francisco at 10:39 p.m., Wagner said.
