Todd Helton’s teammates often razz the Rockies’ 35- year-old first baseman, saying he turns triples into doubles and doubles into singles. But Helton turned on his jets against the Pirates in the sixth inning Tuesday night at Coors Field when he banged a hit off the center-field wall and hustled to third base for a triple. Helton’s third three-bagger of the season extended his hitting streak to 16 games, his longest since a career-best 17-game run in 2003.
CarGo delivers.
Carlos Gonzalez continued showing power with a solo home run in the sixth. He entered the game with an .818 slugging percentage in his last 13 games.
Tulo time.
Troy Tulowitzki not only hit for the cycle Monday, he became the first shortstop in MLB history to go 5-for-5 (or better) and have at least seven RBIs in the same game. That’s according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
