JOHNSTOWN, Colo.—Two more bear sightings have been reported in Colorado, this time on the plains of Weld County and near the foothills of Boulder County.
Both of Tuesday’s sightings involved a mother bear and two cubs. One was on a farm near Johnstown, 40 miles north of Denver, and the other was in a back yard in Boulder, 25 miles northwest of Denver.
Wildlife officers plan to leave the Weld County bears alone since they’re in a rural area. They’re leaving the Boulder bears alone for the time being in hopes they find their way to open space.
Bear-human confrontations have become a problem in Aspen, about 200 miles west of Boulder. Wildlife officers there have killed at least nine bears this summer because of aggressive behavior.
