In commenting on reports that a new arena football league is being formed, Kroenke Sports Enterprises executive Paul Andrews said Thursday he was unaware of any involvement by the ownership of the Colorado Crush.

“We’re always looking for opportunities, but nothing has been presented to us at this time,” Andrews said. “We’d be interested in anyone coming in and looking at our facility (Pepsi Center) as a site for arena football games.”

The Crush, a member of the Arena Football League, which has suspended operations indefinitely, was owned by John Elway, Stan Kroenke and Broncos owner Pat Bowlen. Elway was the team’s chief executive officer. He did not return a phone call in attempts to determine any interest by the Crush ownership.

An Associated Press report from Oklahoma City said an announcement would be made Monday of the formation of Arena Football 1. AF2 teams in Oklahoma City, Arkansas and Spokane, Wash., are to be involved along with unspecified teams for the defunct AFL.

The report said the new league would be based in Tulsa, Okla., and would begin play in late March or early April. — Irv Moss, The Denver Post
