EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said Thursday that his back injury is “not a big deal at all,” meaning he should play Sunday against San Francisco.

Peterson has been limited in practice the last two days because of the injury. He rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown last week against Detroit, and leads the NFL in rushing heading into the Vikings’ home opener against the 49ers.

“God willing, I will be out there playing,” Peterson said. “Not a big deal at all.”

Tomlinson’s ankle ailing

SAN DIEGO — Running back LaDainian Tomlinson (ankle), outside linebacker Shawne Merriman (groin) and rookie right guard Louis Vasquez (knee) missed practice and are questionable for San Diego’s game Sunday against Miami.

“When you don’t practice on Thursday, it gets tougher,” coach Norv Turner said. “Shawne and Vasquez, I think we’re going to try to see what they’re able to do (today). I don’t know that L.T. would be ready to try to do anything.”

Footnotes.

Giants safety Kenny Phillips, who had two interceptions in Sunday night’s victory over Dallas, was placed on injured reserve because of an unhealthy left knee.

• Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez has some tendinitis in his right knee that isn’t expected to affect his availability for Sunday’s game against Tennessee.

• Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb (rib) is still not able to practice and it appears unlikely he will play Sunday against the Chiefs.

• Steelers safety Tyrone Carter was fined $5,000 for his hit on Chicago tight end Greg Olsen on Sunday.

• Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck (rib), linebacker Lofa Tatupu (hamstring) and fullback Justin Griffith (knee) are questionable for Sunday’s game against the Bears.

• Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson (groin) will miss Sunday’s game at Philadelphia.
