This week, Cavaliers star LeBron James said he’s going to stop wearing jersey No. 23, in order to pay respect to Mi- chael Jordan, the legendary Bulls guard. And James suggested that no other player should ever wear No. 23, to honor the Hall of Famer.
Friday, Jordan’s old coach thought it was a classy move.
“I think it’s great,” said Lakers coach Phil Jackson, who coached Jordan to six titles in the 1990s. “Hockey did that for Wayne Gretzky. He was a guy who changed the way the game is played. We haven’t seen this happen in basketball. It might be a little step on the toes for guys like Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. But he certainly set a standard.”
No A.C.
Nuggets guard Anthony Carter did not play on Friday, resting a left hip strain that had been bothering him for much of the season. Carter is listed as day to day and will receive treatment in efforts to better the hip for Denver’s next game — Tuesday against Toronto.
Footnotes.
Before tipoff Friday, Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony was asked if he felt the Lakers acquired Ron Artest basically to guard him. “I think so, I think so,” Anthony said with a smile. “The Lakers do a great job at focusing at getting the ball out of my hands, letting other people score.”
