WESTCLIFFE, Colo.—Authorities are trying to identify the body of a woman found by a motorist in western Colorado.

Custer County Coroner Art Nordyke says the body found was Nov. 24 by someone who stopped to use the bathroom by an old campground. He says the body had been there a while and was partially dismembered, likely by animals.

The El Paso County coroner’s office is conducting an autopsy. Nordyke says it could be three weeks before he knows the cause of death.

The Custer County sheriff’s office says the woman had dark hair, was white or Hispanic in her 30s or 40s and was from 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall and about 190 pounds.
