MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia point guard Darryl “Truck” Bryant broke his right foot during practice Tuesday and will miss the rest of the NCAA Tournament.

The Mountaineers play Washington on Thursday night in Syracuse, N.Y.

“I feel sorry for Truck that this injury happened during this time of the season,” coach Bob Huggins said.

Bryant, a sophmore, averages 9.3 points and is second on the team in assists (3.1) and 3-pointers (40).

He will likely be replaced by junior Joe Mazzulla, who averages 2.2 points and 2.3 assists per game.

St. John’s, Hewitt to talk

ATLANTA — Georgia Tech granted St. John’s permission to interview Yellow Jackets coach Paul Hewitt.

Hewitt, who is from New York, coached Georgia Tech to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He has guided Georgia Tech to five NCAA Tournaments, including the 2004 Final Four, in his 10 seasons.

St. John’s fired Norm Roberts last week after the Red Storm (17-16) lost to Memphis in the first round of the NIT.

Self: Henry ready for NBA

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas coach Bill Self said he believes freshman Xavier Henry is ready to compete in the NBA if he decides to declare for the draft.

“Now, the question to the family is, ‘Is he ready to play and impact the NBA game?’ ” Self said. “I personally think he can do that. But that’s something they need to decide as a group.”

The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 13.4 points for the Jayhawks.

Landesberg leaves Cavs

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia’s suspended sophomore guard, Sylven Landesberg, who led the Cavaliers with a 17.3-point scoring average, is leaving school to pursue a professional career.
