When cornerback Andre Goodman first arrived at Dove Valley for offseason workouts a year ago, it seemed like he had to spend days just trying to learn the names of all his new teammates and coaches here in Denver.
In 2009, the Broncos signed more than a dozen free agents and ushered in an almost entirely new coaching staff.
Fast forward to this year’s relatively slower offseason, and Goodman said today that it has been nice to see more stability in the locker room, particularly among his defensive back teammates. The only new addition to the secondary, cornerback Nate Jones, was Goodman’s teammate previously in Miami.
“I guess there’s not as much turnover, with the coaches and everything. I guess I’m kind of comfortable with the guys, especially in my unit, its not like it’s a bunch of new guys,” Goodman said. “I think everyone is comfortable with the system itself.”
But despite the familiar faces and starting jobs seemingly set in the secondary, Goodman said there would be plenty of competition this offseason. The nickel cornerback job is open, with Jones and second-year players Alphonso Smith and Tony Carter fighting for playing time.
“It is good for the team, it is good for what we’re trying to accomplish, with no one feeling good about their position,” Goodman said.
