Ed DeLozier, executive director of the E-470 Public Highway Authority and prominent in the national tolling industry, died Wednesday, one day after suffering a stroke in Texas.

DeLozier, 58, had been a presenter at a conference put on by the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association in Austin and was returning Tuesday afternoon, when he collapsed in the airport, said E-470 spokeswoman Jo Snell. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, she said.

DeLozier had been head of the E-470 Public Highway Authority since 1999 and had worked in the tolling industry for more than 30 years, starting out as a toll collector on the New Jersey Turnpike in 1973, according to his bio.

Funeral arrangements are pending, Snell said.

“Ed was probably one of the best leaders I’ve ever worked with,” she said. The Denver Post
