MOUNT WASHINGTON, N.H.—A 42-year-old cyclist from Colorado has won the Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb up New Hampshire’s Mount Washington.

Nico Toutenhoofd of Boulder finished the grueling 7.6-mile climb in 57 minutes, 26 seconds (57:26) Saturday.

He placed fourth last year and second in 2008.

The first-place winner among the women was 47-year-old Marti Shea of Marblehead, Mass. She finished in one hour, five minutes and 42 seconds (1:05:42).

The 38th annual race is sponsored by the Tin Mountain Conservation Center in Albany, N.H. It follows the auto road from the base to the 6,288-foot summit of the highest peak in the Northeast.
