Two cats and two dogs died in the smoke from a kitchen fire at a home in 300 block of Kohl Street in Broomfield this afternoon. No humans were home, North Metro Fire Rescue said.
The fire was quickly extinguished after crews arrived at about 4:45 p.m. About 20 firefighters were there for about an hour, ensuring the fire was out.
The homeowner returned shortly after the fire was put out.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The home suffered extensive damage from the fire and smoke, and the resident will have to live elsewhere until repairs are made, the fire department stated.
