A 17-year-old boy who was babysitting the day his toddler cousin was found unconscious in a bathtub has been charged with child abuse resulting in death.
The teen, who was not identified because of his age, was charged as a juvenile, said Denver district attorney’s spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough.
“The allegations are that he went to sleep, and when he woke up, the 11-month-old was unconscious in a bathtub that was nearly full of water,” Kimbrough said.
The incident happened Sept. 7 at 1095 S. Quivas St., the female toddler’s home, police said. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner identified the victim as Anahi Juarez-Gonzalez.
Her family spelled her name “Anahy.”
Family members described the death as accidental. Kieran Nicholson, The Denver Post
