Surely everyone in the world of racing knows stickers reflecting loyalty to corporate sponsors such as “STP,” “Dupont,” “Quaker State” and “Home Depot” certainly make race cars go faster on the NASCAR circuit.
So, what works for racing on asphalt must do the same for sledding on ice, right?
The fast-moving bobsleds the Americans rode last year in a breakthrough performance at the Vancouver Games have been blitzed with logos of corporate sponsors, assuming the appearance of NASCAR and IndyCar racing in a boon for a Colorado Springs-based national governing body that needs resources to remain afloat in tough economic times, according to The Gazette in Colorado Springs.
USA Bobsled & Skeleton scrapped traditional “USA” wraps on the front and sides of eight sleds for the nine-stop World Cup tour. The new designs feature six sponsors on the Geoff Bodine-inspired sleds. And it seems to be working: The American duo of Shauna Rohbock and Valerie Fleming won its first World Cup race of the season Friday in Igls, Austria.
